Marco Zim: Born in Moscow, Marco Zim immigrated to the United States in 1885. He studied art in New York at both the National Academy of Design, under Ward and Maynard, and the Art Students League, under George Grey Barnard, and in Paris at the Ecole des Beaux Arts. Returning from France, Marco Zim worked in New York until 1910. In 1911 he had moved to San Diego where (along with Maurice Braun) he founded the San Diego Academy of Art.

From 1914 to 1916, Marco Zim maintained studios in Los Angeles and then resided in Santa Barbara until approximately 1925. Marco Zim was a well recognized painter, etcher and sculptor. He was a full member of the Artland Club of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Painters and Sculptors Club, the California Art Club, the San Francisco Art Association and the Society of American Etchers. His art is today included in such major American collections as the Library of Congress, Washington, DC, the New York Public Library, the Art Institute of Chicago and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
