DESCRIPTION - An original antique hand coloured aquatint engraving on wove. Entitled "Thorough Breds" featuring four thoroughbred racehorses with jockeys and their managers in a stable with one jockey having trouble with his horse rearing. The print is plate 3 of 4 from a series entitled "Fore's Stable Scenes". London published March 17th 1846 by Messrs Fores at their sporting & fine print repository & frame manufactory, 41 Picadilly, Corner of Sackville Street.

Harris after a painting by J. He was known as the'Artist Coachman' because he was a night coach driver as well as painter of horse portraits. He began painting hunters and racehorses for the gentry. Queen Victoria was one of his commissioners. Please note that the dark bay horse on the far left is not faded and is the same colour all over - this is not a fault but is due to the shine/reflection of the ink.

Provenance - Border Sporting Gallery, Wooler, Northumberland & Addison Ross Gallery, Eaton Terrace, Belgravia, London. Comes framed and mounted in a good quality museum gilt lined mount and gilt coloured wooden frame with backing board.

APPROX SIZE of visible image 28" x 20" and 36" x 29" including mount and frame. CONDITION - In excellent condition being clean and bright with no foxing, fading or watermarks. Some minor marks to mount and frame - please see photos to satisfy yourself as to condition as they form part of the description. Most of the paintings and prints that I source are antique or vintage and as such are not in perfect condition and may need some attention to frames, mounts, glass, fixings, tape, dust, nails etc.
