The Sumerian King List - Poster, Wrapped Canvas, Framed Print. The Sumerian King List is one of the most important records found from ancient Mesopotamia. The list featured is a set of prisms with Sumerian cuneiform writing on each of the 4 sides, documenting a succession of cities in Sumer and its surrounding regions, the cities rulers and the lengths of their reigns. Especially in the earlier antediluvian sections of the list, the reigns of Kings span hundreds or even thousands of years (in some instances up to 36,000 years) when "Kingship was lowered from heaven"; the time when the Anunnaki gods first transmitted to mankind the institution of power. There were 10 Kings who controlled the earth prior to the event of the infamous biblical flood, "and then the deluge swept over the earth".

After the flood, the list states that the ancient royal abode changes from Kish to Uruk, Ur, Awan, Hamazi, Aksak, Akkad, and then more recently to Ashur and Babylon. Some manuscripts add a short biographical note about particularly remarkable figures on the list. We can see that before becoming king certain persons were a shepherd, a fisherman, a boatman, a priest etc.
