The Sea features Liverpool's world famous skyline, with the "Three Graces" (The Liver Building, The Cunard Building, and The Port of Liverpool Building), and the iconic Mersey Ferry, as made famous by Gerry and the Pacemakers in their hit song, "Ferry'Cross The Mersey".

There's even a cheeky seagull hovering above the Liver Birds, waiting to swoop down on any unguarded chip or sandwich. Taking inspiration from the travel posters of the early 20th Century, Sir Peter has given the concept his own pop-art twist by using vivid colours, and geometric shapes.

The stars that bracket the title of the print are very distinctive of Sir Peter's style and can be found on many of his pieces. This screenprint was produced as part of the celebrations in the run up to Liverpool's year as European Capital of Culture in 2008.
